In 1960 South Australia was a very different place to the vibrant state of today. The famous Sir Thomas Playford was still Premier, Adelaide only had one motel, pubs closed at 6pm and hedonists couldn’t order wine in restaurants after 8pm. Change was needed to bring Adelaide alive.   Since its launch in 1960, the Adelaide Festival has created a strong tradition of innovation and inspirational performances, drawing on selections of diverse art forms from across Australia and around the world.   Over the years tens of thousands of artists have presented their work at the Adelaide Festival, which has hosted many extraordinary and exclusive moments.
